A Trip To The Park

In this workshop we were learning about observation and looking at the everyday through the eyes of a designer. Going to the park is something we all do or have done. This makes it hard for us to come up with new ideas to create designs that may enhance a trip to the park for the people who go there.

Through using the 8 different observational research methods we used, we gathered and found information that gave us a new insight.

We asked people a serises of questions about why they came to the park in the first place and how often they go there. For this workshop I wanted to create a series of photos that i have taken of the same park, in the same place, that just show observing the area at different times of the day.

Stencils and Metamorphis and Icons and symbols

Icons, Symbols and Pictograms

For this workshop we used the most iconic things around to make our own icon or symbol to represent the area. We chose to do it on Elephant and Castle. We decided to keep the initial shape of the elephant but on its back have different things symbolising places around elephant and castle. I have also thought about using the icons to represent an area idea in my wrap around poster.

Stencils and Metamorphis

In this workshop we created our own stencil and played around with the two main London colours. I enjoyed the workshop because it gave us lots of freedom to do whatever we wanted and show what we wanted our work to be.

Contrast and London Characters

At first I didnt really know how to show something different and unique with the words high and low so we started off taking pictures of anything that could relate to this. After gathering images of things around Elephant and Castle, my thinking was that I could use the words 'high' and 'low' to apply to the differences in class around London. This ties in with the diversity of London of how areas so close to each other, can be so different.

London Characters

In this workshop we were given a borough and had to create a character that is based on the borough itself, not on the people there. We were given Islington. We gathered information about the area:

lots of contrast
urban- a farm
rich and poorer places
old and new places
antique market
kings cross
old street
east london
angel sculpture

After coming up with lots of points to build up our character, we then used bits and pieces to make the character up.
